Voters Not Politicians Statement on the Death of Ted Lawson, former VNP field coordinator

Voters Not Politicians is heartbroken to share the tragic loss of Ted Lawson, a well-known member of the VNP community in and around Lansing. On Sunday afternoon, Ted lost his life to gun violence.

Ted was a volunteer field director in Ingham County during our 2018 campaign to end gerrymandering. He worked tirelessly to empower volunteers through technical, canvassing, and training support. If you were an activist in Lansing, you knew Ted.

VNP Programs Director Kim Murphy-Kovalick, who worked with Ted during the 2018 campaign, shared, “Ted’s tireless commitment to democracy through volunteerism is what Voters Not Politicians stands for. We can only hope to reflect Ted’s kindness and generosity back onto the world. May his memory endure and provide comfort to the community.”

All of our thoughts are with Ted’s family and friends, and the entire Lansing community during this difficult time.

Although I did not know Ted, I am extremely sorry to learn that another dedicated citizen has been silenced and lost in an horrific abuse of arms among the very communities that would benefit from the endeavors promoted by this dedicated individual to his community.

Beyond his organizational efforts and expertise, Ted was all around grunt ready to do whatever had to be done. I spent the day we delivered the Prop2 petitions with him.
When we saw the movie “Slay the Dragon” he was the guy loading/unloading a couple tons of boxes in/out of the truck with me.
Ted was committed to uplifting the lives of the likes of the 15 year old kid who murdered him, which makes this hurt even more. 😢

In honor of Ted, let’s address gun violence at our grassroots level 😢

I am so sad and sorry Ted lost his life in this tragic, senseless way. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Ted was always there…cutting turf, canvassing, doing whatever needed to be done. And he always did it with a smile.

May loving memories fill the broken hearts of his family and community.
I am saddened for the senseless loss of life.
