Prop 22-2 added language to the Michigan Constitution that protects and provides critical financial support for local communities to ensure elections are accessible and secure.

  • Pre-paid postage must be provided by Michigan election officials on absentee ballot applications and absentee ballot envelopes
  • Requires at least one drop box in every municipality and at least one drop box for every 15,000 registered voters in a municipality
  • Require donation disclosure of polling places and other charitable donations

Shorter lines on Election Day – click to learn more Expand

Prop 22-2 provides registered voters with more options to cast their ballot. This means that lines will be shorter for voters who choose to vote in person on Election Day.

Request to have an absentee ballot mailed to you for all future elections (once and done!) – click to learn more Expand

Prop 22-2 allows voters to request an absentee ballot be mailed to them for all future elections without having to submit an application each time.

If voters move within the state of Michigan, they will not need to re-apply but they do have to update their voter registration (simply changing their address on their driver’s license or state ID will do the trick).

Online absentee ballot tracking so voters can be confident that their votes are counted – click to learn more Expand

Prop 22-2 creates a state-funded ballot tracking system that will track absentee ballot applications and ballots and will provide voters with electronic notifications (if opted in).

The identity of each voter will be verified prior to counting their vote, whether they are voting in person or by mail – click to learn more Expand

Prop 22-2 requires voters to prove their identity by showing a photo ID or signing an affidavit. The initiative will protect the affidavit process for voters who forget their photo ID when voting in person on Election Day.

The initiative will also allow voters to prove their identity by providing their signature when voting by mail. Signatures will be compared to the signature on file and the voter will be notified if their signature doesn’t match so they have an opportunity to correct the issue.

Election results determined solely by the number of votes cast - click to learn more Expand

Prop 22-2 requires election audits to be performed by election officials in public based on methods established prior to each election. Public officials will maintain the security of ballots and election materials.

This amendment ensures that the Board of State Canvassers is the only entity authorized to certify election results and requires that those results are determined solely by votes cast by registered Michigan voters.
