Alan Ells - Saginaw (VNP Region 3 - Saginaw County)

I was born and raised near Boston, Mass. After receiving a BA at Boston University and an MA at Northwestern I spent three exciting years as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Panama. I then got a law degree from Northeastern University and went to work in legal services in Flint, Michigan. I completed a career of nearly forty years in legal aid and, in addition to representing clients in a variety of legal issues; served as Executive Director in several legal services programs in the Midwest and the East Coast.

I have also have been extensively involved in the leadership of non-profit organizations in their growth and transitions. I am Treasurer of the American Lighthouse Foundation and former Chairman of the Board of the Chalfonte Foundation. In summary, my work now is different than it was in legal services but the goals are similar; public service in an effort to improve the communities where I live.
