The following statement can be attributed to Nancy Wang, Executive Director of Voters Not Politicians, on the status of the election and success of expanded voting rights across the state:
We’re encouraged to see the historic levels of absentee voting, and successful in-person voting across the state that prioritized the health and safety of election workers and voters alike.
Over 650 Voters Not Politicians volunteers worked with local clerks across the state through our VoteSafe campaign to secure additional registration and voting hours, as well as satellite locations and secure drop boxes. The Nights & Weekends program secured wins in 17 municipalities including Pontiac, Kalamazoo, Sterling Heights, and more, serving over 800,000 registered voters across the state.
Voters Not Politicians is proud of the role we played to help Michiganders exercise their expanded voting rights secured under Proposal 3-2018. Now, we must ensure that every last vote is counted. By all indications, our democracy is working just how it should and the will of the people will win out against political games.
Nancy Wang will be available for interviews tomorrow (Wednesday), as well as volunteers who served as election poll workers in various capacities.
