The following statement can be attributed to Nancy Wang, Executive Director of Voters Not Politicians, on the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeal’s rejection of petitions filed by the Michigan Republican Party and special interests seeking rehearing of the Circuit Court’s decision upholding Michigan’s voter-approved Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission:
It’s time for these attacks by the Michigan Republican Party and special interests against Michigan’s voter-approved, citizen-led redistricting process to end. Every single judge to have considered these meritless lawsuits has affirmed the people’s power to put voters – not politicians – in charge of redistricting in our state. That includes today, when not a single judge of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals requested a vote to rehear the challenge to Michigan’s first Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission. The selection process for the Commission is underway, and Voters Not Politicians will continue to do all that we can to make sure the new redistricting process is a success.
