Southeast Michigan Organizer

The Role:

Voters Not Politicians (VNP) is seeking a Southeast Michigan Organizer to oversee and support our volunteers and programs in the Detroit Metro area. This organizer will be responsible for maintaining and growing our volunteer base while ensuring active programs are implemented at the city/county level in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties. This position involves supporting existing volunteer leaders in meeting their goals as well as continuing to build VNP’s presence in the Detroit Metropolitan Area. This is a full-time position with a salary of $3,500 per month (paid bi-monthly) plus an additional $300 per month for health benefits. We are seeking applicants that can start as soon as possible and will continue until the end of November 2020.

Responsibilities:

  • Report to the State Organizing Manager
  • Oversee and support the volunteer activities in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne County
  • Oversee and support the activities of local teams engaged in the Nights & Weekends program to engage clerks and expand access to voting and other VNP programs including legislative education and accountability.
  • Track program metrics and progress to goal for field teams and leaders, developing regular and ad-hoc reports for VNP leadership and funders
  • Motivate volunteer field leaders to experience success and achieve goals
  • Maintain the field team chain of communication; plan and supervise calls and meetings as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, Business, or another related field. Applicants without an applicable degree but with demonstrated professional accomplishment are also encouraged to apply. 
  • At least one (1) cycle of organizing in a campaign (partisan or non-partisan) or 6-12 months of related campaign/advocacy experience is preferred. 
  • Familiarity with organizing and project management tools such as Every Action or NGP VAN, Google Drive, Basecamp, online tools, and more. 
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel up to two hours when needed (travel expenses are reimbursed at $0.35 per mile)
  • Team player, adaptability, a sense of humor, and a positive, can-do attitude
