Commission to Reduce Number of Public Hearings for More Mapping Days

To ensure that the upcoming district maps display partisan fairness and will be compliant with the Voting Rights Act, the commission voted today to meet Monday through Friday next week as well as Monday and Tuesday the week of October 11th. This motion passed 11-2, with commissioners Lange and Wagner voting no.

As these additional mapping dates would cut into the consultants’ abilities to evaluate and present the maps for public view, the commission decided to reduce the number of public hearings from nine to five. Edward Woods will edit and post the new schedule tomorrow. The 45-day period of public comment period has also shifted to begin on November 14th.
