Commission Continues Drafting State House Districts, Will Begin Deliberations

The commission continued drafting State House districts in Southeast Michigan in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. Commissioners aimed to keep Asian-American populations together as they drew district lines in Northern Oakland County, Shelby Township, and Canton. Commissioners also began drawing in the Tri-Cities and Thumb area drawing districts surround the city of Saginaw.

Next week, the commission will begin its deliberation process once all three district maps are completed, along with a complete Voting Rights Act (VRA) and partisan fairness analysis. Commissioners will then review all draft maps as well as any alternative draft maps, and make any adjustments before they are submitted for the public hearings in October.
