Voters Not Politicians volunteers come from all walks of life, and bring unique backgrounds and perspectives to their work. Alecia B., a Legislative Liaison volunteer and team leader in Troy, is a perfect example of that.
Alecia was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and joined VNP’s army of volunteers just this year!
As a legislative liaison, Alecia advocates for Voters Not Politicians’ pro-democracy priorities with her state legislators. And even though she’s started this work only recently, she’s already seen the impact that grassroots advocacy can have as a volunteer Voters Not Politicians.
Attending community meetings with representatives and seeing the amount of other citizens there who were engaged in the community and totally open to hearing more about VNP and our mission has been especially meaningful to me.
For Alecia, the importance of VNP’s pro-democracy work is pretty clear and simple.
Because this is such a practical, systematic set of changes that have the power to change people’s lives and change the course of democracy. It’s also something that is so common sense and non-partisan that I think it’s one of the rare topics these days that you can have a calm conversation with people along the political spectrum and actually get somewhere.
And now that Alecia is here with us, it’s clear that she intends to stay as a member of the best trained, most organized, and most prepared army of pro-democracy volunteers in Michigan!
Through volunteering with Voters Not Politicians, I’ve learned that there are so many ways to get our hands dirty and make a difference at a local level.
It’s such an important way for me to feel like I can contribute and be part of positive change. I’m also really excited to start meeting more and more members of the VNP volunteer community and building relationships.
