Michigan residents are now able to view and comment on the present commission working draft maps for the U.S. House, State Senate, and State House. These maps can be accessed from the MICRC website.
The commission continued drawing State House districts in the metro Detroit area, starting today in the Flint area. The current State House map splits Flint from North to South and includes surrounding municipalities to not pack African-American Flint residents into one district. The commission then returned to Oakland County to map Pontiac, then Wayne County to map Inkster, Garden City, and Westland. Commissioners attempted to reconcile the district contacting Hamtramck to preserve the Bengali population in Banglatown but decided to postpone any revisions.
