The following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s Order in the challenge to Michigan’s election district maps brought by the League of Women Voters of Michigan and other parties can be attributed to Nancy Wang, Executive Director of Voters Not Politicians, the grassroots, nonpartisan organization that ended gerrymandering in Michigan by establishing an Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission:
Thanks to the work of the League of Women Voters in this case, the public now knows what happens behind closed doors when politicians and special interests have the power to manipulate election district maps for partisan political gain. The U.S. Supreme Court’s unwillingness to protect voters from extreme partisan gerrymandering underscores the importance of citizen-led initiatives. Voters Not Politicians is committed to doing all that we can to support Michigan’s citizen-driven process, and reform efforts in other states.

Have we considered raising the issue before the Michigan Supreme Court under the Michigan Constitution. I worked on a case with the ACU years ago where we lost In the US Supreme Court. and won in Michigan under the Michigan Constitution on af ourth amendment claim for sobriety check lanes.
