The following can be attributed to Nancy Wang, Executive Director of Voters Not Politicians, on the response filed today with the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals opposing plaintiffs’ request for rehearing in the Daunt, et al v. Benson lawsuit:
“The people of Michigan amended our state Constitution to create an Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission and end gerrymandering in our state. Nearly 6,000 voters have applied to serve on the Commission. Every federal judge to consider plaintiffs’ claims in this lawsuit has concluded that the will of the people prevails. It’s time for opponents of fair maps, like the Michigan Freedom Fund, to end their quest to thwart the will of the people, and turn their energies towards engaging in the new, voter-approved redistricting process.”
The application period to serve on Michigan’s first Independent Citizens Commission is this Monday, June 1. Voters Not Politician’s full response to the petition for rehearing can be found here.
