The following statement can be attributed to Nancy Wang, executive director of Voters Not Politicians, following today’s vote by the MICRC on new election maps for Michigan:
“Michigan’s Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, a group of citizens from across the state and the political spectrum, made history today by adopting the first maps in our state’s history to be drawn using a fair, impartial, and transparent redistricting process. The Commission took thousands of public comments and incorporated them into their decision making. They carried out the will of the 2.5 million Michiganders who voted to end gerrymandering and put political power back in the hands of voters – not politicians.
We are incredibly proud to see the work of Voters Not Politicians, our thousands of volunteers, and community partners culminate in something we set out to achieve five years ago, fair maps for Michigan. This shows that Michiganders can come together across party lines to defend democracy – an important lesson for our nation and a reason to celebrate.”

Do you have any idea exactly how the thousands of comments were “incorporated” into their decision – the exact process? I’ve asked several times with no response from them. I’d love to see a data breakdown on the Birch -v- Chestnut maps. Thank you.
