The following can be attributed to Nancy Wang, Executive Director of Voters Not Politicians, on the brief filed today with the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in the Daunt, et al v. Benson and Michigan Republican Party v. Benson lawsuits:
“An overwhelming majority of Michigan voters approved a fair, impartial, and transparent redistricting process so that voters choose their politicians – not the other way around. The voters have a fundamental constitutional right to choose to adopt a redistricting process that is free of conflicts of interest among its commissioners. Voters Not Politicians will keep fighting to defend the will of the voters from those that seek to return us to the days of extreme gerrymandering and rigged elections. We look forward to putting these meritless lawsuits behind us and focusing on public education and outreach to maximize voter participation in the new redistricting process.”
Oral arguments in this case are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
