VNP volunteers will provide facts to dissuade signers of GOP anti-voter proposal

LANSING, Mich. – Voters Not Politicians today announced it is mobilizing its volunteer army to dissuade voters from supporting the Michigan Republican Party’s effort to reduce voting in our state.

“A democracy only works when the voice of the people can be heard. No matter what they claim, the purpose of the GOP’s petition drive is to make it harder for some voters to vote, plain and simple. Voters Not Politicians will be alerting the public of the facts of this proposal and how it is anti-democratic and unnecessary,” said Nancy Wang, executive director of Voters Not Politicians.

“Now is the time for voters across the state to stand up for our freedom to vote and oppose this package of voter suppression measures,” Wang said.

The proposal would throw up new barriers to voting, prevent charitable groups from helping fund elections as they do other functions of government, and reduce access to absentee ballots. It comes after Michiganders turned out in record numbers in the 2020 election in an election that has been proven to have been secure and fraud free.

“Voters Not Politicians believes our legislature should be increasing choices and options for voters, to ensure that every eligible Michigander has the freedom to cast a ballot easily to determine the future of our state,” Wang said. “Just as we led the redistricting fight to make sure that voters choose their politicians instead of politicians choosing their voters, we will join this battle to prevent politicians from limiting access to the ballot box.”

  1. We’re not sure what you’re asking folks to volunteer for. Those of us that took petitions around for Voters Not Politicians, are wanting to know if there is something similar in the hopper for volunteers. Where is the people power needed now?
