VNP Launches Affinity Groups

Voters Not Politicians hired Magnolia Detroit in order to assess our organization and advance our goals of making VNP a more inclusive space for all of our staff and volunteers. As a result of this work, VNP is launching Affinity Groups to create supportive spaces for volunteers and staff with shared lived experiences and identities.

An affinity group is a group of people linked by a common interest or purpose; a designated group in which members share a particular identity. Affinity groups create intentional space for people with shared lived experiences to connect with one another without the threat of their feelings or thoughts being minimized or disregarded. They provide members a sense of inclusivity and an opportunity to problem-solve shared obstacles.

Our affinity groups will function as a virtual space for VNP volunteers and staff across the state bound together by a shared identity, to feel a sense of interconnectedness and collaboration in their work here, as well as their lives outside of it.

We will be starting with these five groups:

  • LGBTQ
  • Black/PoC
  • Under 30 Activists
  • Parents of School-Age Children
  • Veterans

If you consider yourself to be a member of one of these groups and would be interested in potentially acting as a moderator or member for the affinity group associated with it, or you would like more information about these groups, please email [email protected] and indicate which group you’d like to join.
