Voters Not Politicians volunteers collected 171,636 signatures, overshooting our commitment to the coalition effort and ensuring that Promote the Vote 2022 will qualify for the statewide ballot. What’s the “secret sauce” that allows Voters Not Politicians volunteers to do so much extraordinary work across the state? Our success can be directly attributed to our training, support, and empowered volunteer leadership.
Voters Not Politicians is a volunteer organization whose goal is to engage Michiganders in structural democracy change. Centering volunteers in the decision making process sets VNP apart and gives us a strategic advantage.
More than 2,300 volunteers turned in signatures as part of the VNP circulation effort for Promote the Vote 2022. Our top circulator collected 3,014 signatures, and sixteen additional volunteers collected over 1,000 signatures each. In a time when other ballot initiatives are failing to get the required number of signatures to succeed, VNP volunteers are energized and committed to making positive change, and willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.
Volunteers are engaged in all of the work required to make campaigns successful: collecting signatures, canvassing, engaging with elected officials, working with community leaders to create trusted relationships, fundraising, and research and strategic planning for campaigns.
The power of VNP is our robust volunteer engagement, something that is only possible because we provide the structure within which volunteers can give whatever time and talent they have available. We provide the necessary infrastructure and support so people can simply step into place and successfully engage in the political process as activists.
Volunteer Leadership
The heart of Voters Not Politicians, volunteer leaders are essential to success. Their familiarity with their own geographic area helps them come up with strategies, conduct outreach to local businesses, and recruit local volunteer teams. Volunteer leaders are responsible for identifying opportunities, creating events for volunteers to complete voter contact, and then ensuring that volunteers are signed up for those events.
Voters Not Politicians staff and volunteers are fired up by our success in the qualification phase of the Promote the Vote 2022 campaign. We’re ready to redirect our energy and resources to ensure that the Promote the Vote 2022 proposal passes in November and that voters around the state know which candidates for statewide and legislative office support democracy and fair elections!
