DETROIT, MI – Today, the Michigan House of Representatives introduced critical gun safety legislation to protect voters at polling places and absentee ballot boards, including HB 4127 and HB 4128. In response to the legislation, Nancy Wang, executive director of Voters Not Politicians, released the following statement calling on lawmakers to pass this “common sense” legislation and protect Michigan voters:
“This is long overdue and common sense: there is no place for firearms at our polling places or in our election system. Voters Not Politicians has always been dedicated to ensuring that all voters are heard and have equal access to the ballot box, which starts with preventing voter intimidation.
The Michigan House of Representatives has taken the first step by introducing this critical gun safety legislation, and we at Voters Not Politicians call on all lawmakers to pass this common sense gun safety measure to guarantee no voter will be intimidated by a firearm when voting.”
Voters Not Politicians remains dedicated to protecting all Michigan voters and will prioritize the passage of HB 4127 and HB 4128, utilizing our statewide network of thousands of volunteers to inform Michiganders and call on the State Legislature to act.
