Michiganders for Money Out of Politics (MMOP) officially launched circulation at the end of August, and from Day 1, our volunteer teams have been hitting the streets hard to collect signatures to get Money Out of Politics on the November 2026 ballot.
Together with the MMOP coalition, we’re building a movement to make sure voters are choosing their politicians–not big corporations or government contractors with conflicts of interest.
For years, voters have seen the corrupting influence of money in politics, and it’s quite clear that ending pay-to-play politics and exposing dark money are hugely popular with voters in Michigan. This petition has cross-partisan appeal, and we’ve already gotten signers of all political persuasions. We are only at phase 1 of this campaign to get money out of politics, and the support and enthusiasm we’re seeing is building every day!.
Voters Not Politicians has amplified our circulation capacity by bringing volunteers up the ladder of engagement to take on new roles, by increasing the opportunities for education and training, and by creating comprehensive circulation recruitment opportunities in every corner of the state. The growth of our volunteer program demonstrates the hunger from voters to have elected officials who are accountable to them. Voters want to make sure our elections are not for sale.
Our coalition has started the process of returning the petition sheets and reviewing each of those signatures for accuracy. As of this moment, our returns have over a 90% validity rate–a number that is truly unheard of, even for volunteer collection. This is in large part due to the expertise of our circulation volunteers and the leadership of our volunteer field coordinators. VNP field coordinators demand high quality training materials that are accessible to a wide spectrum of circulators. Voters Not Politicians has ensured that, no matter how you want to collect signatures, you are prepared to inform voters about the policy and ensure the accuracy of the signatures you collect.
The MMOP coalition has also been fortunate to see the fruits of our fundraising efforts come in during recent weeks, which has enabled us to redesign the Mop Up Michigan website to make it more voter and volunteer friendly. Our communications team is at work utilizing new money that has come in to add to our website a mechanism to sign up for a circulating shift and a “find a petition” option. New features will allow all organizations joining with Mop Up Michigan to coordinate more closely, magnifying our collection outputs in the coming weeks and months.
The volunteer infrastructure and institutional knowledge we built in 2018 and fine-tuned in 2022 is well-entrenched within VNP, and we are confident that our army of volunteers will once again show the power of grassroots organizing by getting Mop Up Michigan on the ballot and passed in 2026!
