Commission Receives Racial Bloc Voting, VRA Legal Analysis

The MICRC met in Ann Arbor today to listen to a presentation on racial blog voting analysis by election consultant Dr. Lisa Handley and Voting Rights Act (VRA) legal counsel Bruce Adelson. This presentation addressed ways for the Commission to find adhere to VRA guidelines and preserve the voting power of minority populations in Michigan.

The commission also reviewed and considered COIs in Northern Michigan as they edited their draft State Senate districts. This affected cities in the Northeastern and Northwestern parts of the Lower Peninsula including Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Traverse City.
