The commission continued to analyze Communities of Interest in relation to the drafted State House and State Senate district lines. Today, however, they began a new process of incorporating COIs that involved examining the COI “clusters” aggregated and analyzed by MGGG’s first COI report. The Commission used these clusters to evaluate and edit Senate and House district lines in the Upper Peninsula as well as the Northeast and Northwest parts of the Lower Peninsula, paying extra attention to preserving special communities such as Native American reservations. The commission will continue to examine COIs in parts of northern Michigan at tomorrow’s meeting in Ann Arbor.
