Blog: Prop 22-2 Implementation Begins in Local Communities!

Thousands of Voters Not Politicians volunteers worked hard to pass Proposal 22-2 last year. Now all future elections in our state will be more accessible, secure, and modern than ever before. Amending the state constitution was challenging, but more work is needed to ensure Prop 22-2 is implemented in the spirit in which it was approved.

As grassroots democracy advocates, Voters Not Politicians Education Fund volunteers will focus on establishing productive relationships with local clerks and beginning the rewarding work of educating voters ahead of 2024. Our program is currently seeking volunteers in multiple communities (see below for a list of current openings). Volunteers will meet periodically with their clerks to address gaps, collect information on progress towards implementation, and identify education needs for their community. Volunteers will need to commit at least 2-4 hours per month to this project from February 2023 to August 2023.

In addition to engaging clerks, we will also focus this spring, summer, and fall, on planting the seeds of early voter education in our communities. We’ll need volunteers throughout the state to educate voters and are offering a menu of ways to do so in your community in the coming months. You can take action by:

  • Submitting Letters-to-the-Editor to your local media outlets
  • Hosting presentations with partner organizations and community groups
  • Educational tabling at fairs, festivals, and other public events later this spring and throughout the summer.

Proposal 22-2 will bring a new era of voting access to Michigan’s 8 million voters. With your help, 2024 will be an historic election where all voters can cast their ballot and every vote counts. Volunteers are needed from every county and municipality, in the following communities in particular. Please sign up to join a Prop 22-2 Implementation & Clerk Engagement Team.
