Congratulations!
Congratulations on completing and submitting your application to serve on Michigan's first Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission! You're on your way to shaping Michigan's future.
Here's what you should expect now:
The application process will close on June 1, 2020.
On July 1, 2020, the Secretary of State will use statistical weighting and random selection to narrow the pool to 200 “semi-finalists” (60 Republicans, 60 Democrats, and 80 unaffiliated) who, as a group, represent the geographic and demographic diversity of the state. A list of these 200 semi-finalists will be made public and submitted to the state Legislature.
On August 1, 2020, the four Legislative leaders will submit a list of applications that will be removed from the semi-finalist pool (up to 20 total).
On September 1, 2020, the Secretary of State will randomly select the final 13 Commissioners (4 Republicans, 4 Democrats, and 5 voters who are unaffiliated with either major party).
No later than October 15, 2020, the 13 Commissioners will meet together for the first time.
