This month Voters Not Politicians is launching our legislative advocacy plans for the rest of this year! With this pro-democracy legislature, we have a real opportunity to advance key parts of the ethics and transparency bill package that VNP has been advocating for since 2021.
Voters Not Politicians volunteers know too well that structural democracy reform often requires hard work to become a reality. This legislature needs to hear that their constituents unequivocally want comprehensive personal financial disclosure and FOIA laws passed this year. To support the work that legislative liaisons have been doing since February, we are preparing to spread awareness and get people talking about this issue.
Our comprehensive field strategy offers volunteers the opportunity to participate in legislative canvassing, legislative phone calls, town halls, and more. We will be making the rounds to our dedicated volunteer base for more recruitment soon. When you get our call, remember that your involvement is essential in order to get these reforms across the finish line. Together we can finally enable legislation for Prop 22-1, expand FOIA to the legislature and executive branch, and ban lobbyist gifts.
We also are proud to report that we successfully organized residents of Shelby Township to call for the resignation of Clerk Stanley Grot, one of 16 fake electors charged with attempting to defraud Michigan voters. Our team made 140 recruiting calls from which 20 people committed to attending the Shelby Township Board meeting. VNP also hosted a zoom training to prepare our volunteers to make public comment, and 6 of our volunteers stood up and called for Clerk Grot’s resignation.
